“Tsuki” is the Japanese word for moon. The Tsuki Shirt draws from the moon’s quiet presence—clear in form, restrained in colour and powerful without demanding attention. Created as part of the Insane Shell Japanese Collection, the shirt translates this idea into an immaculate white silhouette where every seam, closure and curve becomes visible through construction rather than ornament.
Its design brings together two distinct references: the disciplined simplicity associated with Japanese design and elements drawn from Chinese dress traditions, particularly the standing Mandarin collar and fabric-knot closures. These influences are brought into a contemporary women’s silhouette through original panel work, a shaped waist and a precise, architectural hem.
The Tsuki Shirt is not a reproduction of a historical garment. It is an Insane Shell interpretation of cultural design languages connected by restraint, balance and the beauty of carefully constructed form.
INSPIRATION : The shirt takes its name from “Tsuki”—the moon in Japanese. Its pure white surface reflects the clarity of moonlight, while the curved seams running through the body recall the gradual arc of a changing lunar phase.
Japanese influence appears through the controlled silhouette, quiet colour and deliberate absence of unnecessary decoration. Every element has space around it, allowing the structure itself to become the visual focus.
The standing collar and handcrafted knotted closures draw inspiration from Mandarin-style clothing and traditional Chinese fastening techniques. Rather than treating these references as decoration, they are integrated into the garment’s function and construction.
FABRIC : Crafted from Oxford cotton, selected for its crisp yet breathable character. The fabric has a finely textured woven surface and enough structure to hold the shirt’s shaped panels, standing collar and clean hem without feeling excessively rigid.
Oxford cotton gives the white colour greater visual depth than a completely flat fabric. Its subtle weave catches light gently, allowing the seams and contours of the shirt to remain visible while maintaining an understated, polished finish.
SPECIAL CONSTRUCTION : The Tsuki Shirt is constructed through multiple shaped panels that follow and define the body. Vertical seams travel from the shoulder and bust towards the waist, creating a fitted silhouette without relying on external belts or heavy internal structure.
The centre-front opening is finished with a series of individually constructed fabric-knot closures. Each closure sits horizontally across the opening, creating a measured rhythm from the collar to the waist. Small intervals between the two front panels introduce a restrained glimpse of skin and prevent the fitted structure from appearing severe.
The front panels separate gently below the final closure and extend into subtly pointed edges. This gives the hem an architectural finish and allows it to sit cleanly over high-waisted trousers or skirts.
COLLAR & CLOSURES : A narrow standing Mandarin-style collar frames the neck and establishes the shirt’s vertical line. Its clean height creates definition without overwhelming the wearer.
The fabric-knot closures are developed in the same white Oxford cotton as the body, preserving the monochromatic character of the design. Their dimensional form introduces texture and craftsmanship while remaining quiet within the all-white composition.
SHAPE : Designed with a close, shaped body, defined shoulders and short sleeves. The waist is gently drawn inward before the hem releases slightly away from the body.
The shirt finishes around the natural waist, creating a balanced proportion that works particularly well with voluminous trousers, long skirts and high-rise tailoring. The structured collar and central closures create length through the torso, while the curved construction lines soften the overall form.
FIT : Designed for women with a tailored fit through the shoulders, bust and waist. The Oxford cotton holds the intended silhouette while the shaped panel construction provides room for the natural contours of the body.
Select your regular size for the intended close fit. If you are between sizes or require adjustments through the bust, waist, shoulders or body length, choose the CUSTOM option so the shirt can be made according to your measurements.
COLOUR : Presented in Moon White—a clear, refined white chosen to reflect the meaning of Tsuki and to place complete attention on the garment’s construction.
As with all white garments, slight differences in appearance may occur under warm, cool or natural lighting.
STYLING : Pair the Tsuki Shirt with wide black trousers for a graphic monochrome composition, or continue the white palette with flowing separates for a softer, moonlit appearance. Its waist-length construction also makes it suitable for styling with high-waisted skirts and structured tailoring.
The trousers, jewellery and accessories shown in the imagery are not included.
ORIGINAL DESIGN : The Tsuki Shirt is an original Insane Shell creation developed as part of our Japanese Collection. Its panelled waist, standing collar, monochromatic knot closures, measured front opening and pointed hem have been designed specifically for this garment.
The piece respectfully brings together Japanese and Chinese design references through Insane Shell’s contemporary language. It is not a replica of any traditional or ceremonial garment.
MAN HOURS / PRODUCTION TIMELINE : Each Tsuki Shirt is made only after an order has been placed and requires approximately 7–8 days to create. Time is dedicated to cutting and aligning the shaped panels, forming the standing collar, constructing each individual fabric closure and refining the fit through the bust and waist.
CUSTOMISATION OPTION : Conscious of our environmental responsibility, Insane Shell is a 100% made-to-order brand. Every piece ordered through our website is created specifically for you.
Our standard size chart is designed to accommodate a wide range of body types. If you require alterations, select the CUSTOM option while placing your order, and our team will contact you for the necessary measurements and details.
DELIVERY TIMELINE : Once the product has been completed and shipped, delivery requires approximately 3–15 days, depending on your location and the applicable courier service. We deliver across India and internationally.
The 7–8 day production period is separate from the delivery timeline.
EXPEDITED DELIVERY : If you require expedited shipping with an estimated transit time of 2–3 days, please contact our customer care team with your delivery location and required date before placing your order. We will check the current production schedule and available courier services and assist you wherever possible. Expedited delivery is subject to production feasibility, courier availability and destination.
PLEASE NOTE : Because of the shirt’s light colour and fitted construction, we recommend wearing seamless, skin-toned innerwear where required. The small spaces visible between the front panels are intentional elements of the design.
Minor variations in the hand-finished fabric closures may occur. These variations are not imperfections; they reflect the individual construction of every made-to-order piece.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS : Professional dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the shirt’s white colour, shaped construction and fabric closures. Do not bleach, soak, wring or tumble dry. Do not pull the knotted closures when opening the shirt; handle each fastening gently.
Iron at a low-to-moderate temperature from the reverse side using a protective cloth. Store on a padded hanger away from direct sunlight, moisture and garments that may transfer colour.
EXCHANGE & RETURN : We offer a free exchange within 30 days of delivery in case of sizing issues or damage. We do not accept returns because every garment is created specifically after an order has been placed. When a made-to-order piece is returned or left unaccepted, it risks becoming waste—and that is something we do not wish to promote.
