Stillform Jacket
The Stillform Jacket reduces tailoring to its most essential elements: line, proportion and controlled overlap. Crafted from premium fabric and available in Beige, Brown and Black, the jacket replaces the conventional lapel, collar and visible button placket with two uninterrupted panels that cross diagonally over the body.
A clean V-neckline frames the layer beneath, while the concealed fastening allows the exterior to remain almost completely unbroken. Structured shoulders establish width at the top before the body falls into a relaxed, boxy silhouette. Wide sleeves continue the architectural proportion, and the overlapping front creates a subtle difference in length along the hem.
Stillform is quiet by intention. Its presence comes from the precision of its shape rather than ornamentation—an apparently simple jacket whose identity is held within the construction.
INSPIRATION : The name Stillform brings together two ideas: stillness and form.
The jacket takes inspiration from the way a solid architectural plane can appear completely motionless while still directing the eye through space. Its surface remains free from visible hardware and decorative interruption, yet the diagonal crossover creates movement across the body.
Insane Shell translated this tension into a garment composed of broad, quiet shapes. One front panel crosses over the other, the shoulders extend outward, and the sleeves descend in clean vertical lines. Nothing appears excessive, but every proportion has been deliberately controlled.
The design also draws from wrap constructions found across Asian clothing traditions, reinterpreting their overlapping logic within a contemporary collarless jacket. It is not a reproduction of a historical garment. It is an original minimalist structure built around balance, concealment and restraint.
FABRIC : Crafted from premium fabric selected for its smooth surface, refined handle and ability to preserve the jacket’s architectural silhouette.
The material has enough body to maintain the structured shoulder line, clean crossover front and straight hem without appearing rigid. It remains comfortable enough to allow movement through the arms and to accommodate a shirt, fitted knit or other light layer beneath.
Its understated surface supports the minimalist design. Rather than introducing visible texture or ornamentation, the fabric allows subtle changes in light and shadow to reveal the overlap, shoulder structure and width of the sleeves.
COLOURS : The Stillform Jacket is available in Beige, Brown and Black.
Beige brings warmth and lightness to the silhouette. It reveals the diagonal crossover and individual panel edges clearly while preserving the calm, neutral character of the design.
Brown gives the jacket a grounded, earthy depth. The shade softens the severity of the architectural structure and pairs naturally with cream, black and tonal neutrals.
Black creates the most graphic interpretation. The front panels appear to merge into one uninterrupted surface from a distance, allowing the asymmetric construction to emerge gradually through shadow and movement.
Colours may appear slightly different depending on lighting, photography and individual screen settings.
COLLARLESS CONSTRUCTION : The Stillform Jacket is designed without a conventional collar or lapel.
Removing these familiar tailoring elements allows the neckline to become part of the front architecture rather than a separate decorative feature. The clean edge travels from one shoulder towards the centre of the body, where it meets the opposing panel and forms the crossover.
This collarless finish also makes the jacket highly responsive to styling. A shirt collar, tie, Mandarin collar or high-neck layer can remain visible above it, while wearing it over a simple crew neck produces a more minimal composition.
CROSSOVER V-NECKLINE : The two front panels meet to form a broad V-shaped neckline.
Unlike a conventional blazer, the V is not created by folded-back lapels. It is formed directly by the edges of the overlapping body panels, giving the neckline a cleaner and more continuous appearance.
The depth reveals part of the garment worn beneath while maintaining substantial coverage across the chest. Its geometry lengthens the upper body visually and draws attention towards the centre of the jacket.
When worn with a collared shirt and tie, the V frames the neckline precisely. With a minimal base layer, it becomes part of a quieter monochromatic silhouette.
ASYMMETRICAL WRAP FRONT : One uninterrupted front panel crosses diagonally over the other, creating the jacket’s defining construction.
The overlap begins near the neckline and widens towards the lower body. Because the panels do not meet along a conventional centre-front placket, the jacket carries a subtle directional movement even when the wearer remains still.
One front edge continues slightly farther across the body and towards the hem, producing restrained asymmetry without introducing exaggerated draping or loose fabric.
The wrap is integrated into the jacket and is not a detachable layer.
CONCEALED CLOSURE : The front is secured through discreet internal fastening points hidden beneath the overlapping panels.
This concealed construction preserves the uninterrupted exterior and ensures that buttons, zips or visible hardware do not compete with the silhouette. Once fastened, the jacket appears to hold itself together through the precision of its overlap.
The closure should be secured carefully so that the two front planes remain aligned and the V-neckline sits in its intended position.
Because the fastening is intentionally concealed, it should not be pulled directly when opening the jacket. Separate the panels gently and release each internal point individually.
STRUCTURED SHOULDERS : A firm, clearly defined shoulder line establishes the width of the jacket.
The shoulders are shaped to appear controlled and architectural without relying on an excessively padded or sharply exaggerated form. Their horizontal presence balances the depth of the V-neck and supports the volume of the sleeves.
The shoulder seam sits with a relaxed extension beyond the natural line, allowing the jacket to feel modern and boxy while retaining visual discipline.
This structure gives the garment presence even when worn over a simple shirt or knit.
RELAXED BOXY BODY : Below the shoulders, the jacket falls with generous ease through the chest, waist and lower body.
It does not taper sharply or follow the natural waist. Instead, the width remains relatively consistent, creating a clean box-like silhouette that allows the overlapping panels to remain smooth.
The absence of waist suppression distinguishes the Stillform Jacket from traditional formal tailoring. Its structure comes from proportion and surface rather than a fitted hourglass shape.
The relaxed body also provides sufficient room for layering without disturbing the front construction.
WIDE STRAIGHT SLEEVES : Full-length sleeves descend from the structured shoulders with generous width through the upper arms, elbows and cuffs.
Their clean, straight construction supports the jacket’s architectural character. Instead of narrowing closely around the wrist, the cuffs remain open and minimal, allowing the sleeves to fall as uninterrupted vertical forms.
The additional room creates ease of movement and accommodates a shirt or fitted knit underneath. Depending on the wearer’s height and arm length, the sleeves may finish at the wrist or extend slightly over part of the hand.
ASYMMETRICAL HEM : The overlapping front creates a subtle variation along the lower edge.
The outer panel extends marginally beyond the layer beneath, allowing the wrap direction to remain visible even after the concealed closure has been secured. This difference is restrained rather than dramatic and forms part of the original pattern.
The jacket finishes around the upper hip, preserving its boxy proportion and allowing it to balance naturally with wide-leg or pleated trousers.
MINIMALIST ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN : The Stillform Jacket is organised around three principal lines.
The shoulder construction establishes a broad horizontal form. The crossover front introduces a strong diagonal. The sleeves and body then descend vertically towards the hem.
Together, these directions create an architectural composition without requiring decorative elements. The hidden closure protects the continuity of the surface, while the slight hem variation prevents the jacket from becoming completely symmetrical.
From the front, the overlapping planes define the garment. From the side, its depth, shoulder structure and boxy volume become more visible. In movement, the front panels respond subtly without losing their controlled form.
SHAPE : Designed with a collarless neckline, structured shoulders, overlapping front panels, a relaxed boxy body, wide sleeves and a hip-length hem.
The silhouette remains broad and composed through the upper body, with little tapering at the waist. The front overlap introduces direction while the back and sleeves preserve a cleaner, straighter fall.
Although minimal in appearance, the jacket’s shape depends on careful balance between shoulder width, body volume, sleeve proportion and front-panel placement.
FIT : Intentionally relaxed and boxy through the shoulders, chest, waist and sleeves.
Select your usual size for the intended architectural silhouette. Size down for a more controlled fit or size up for additional layering room and a more exaggerated boxy proportion.
The jacket should close without pulling across the hidden fastening or causing the crossover neckline to distort.
Custom alterations may be requested for the shoulders, chest, sleeve length, body width, front overlap or overall jacket length.
CONTEMPORARY LUXURY : The Stillform Jacket expresses luxury through restraint.
There is no visible hardware, external embellishment or conventional lapel structure. Instead, its identity is created through the quality of the fabric, the precision of the crossover, the balance of the shoulders and the uninterrupted fall of the body.
This simplicity requires control. With few external details to distract the eye, every edge, proportion and alignment becomes more important.
The result is quiet but commanding—a jacket designed to remain relevant beyond one season or styling context.
VERSATILE STYLING : Wear the Stillform Jacket over a crisp white shirt and tie for a formal composition that contrasts traditional shirting with unconventional outer tailoring.
It may also be layered over a fitted T-shirt, sleeveless top, Mandarin-collar shirt or fine-gauge knit. Pair it with wide-leg trousers for a balanced architectural silhouette, or with straighter tailored pants to keep attention on the jacket’s volume.
Style Beige with white, cream or tonal neutrals for a softened palette. Brown works naturally with ivory, black and warm earth tones, while Black can be worn monochromatically or contrasted against pale trousers.
The shirt, tie, trousers, footwear and other accessories shown in the imagery are styling elements and are not included with the Stillform Jacket.
PRODUCTION TIMELINE : Each Stillform Jacket requires approximately 10–15 days to create. The garment is cut and constructed only after an order has been placed.
Particular attention is given to shaping the shoulders, balancing the two crossover panels, forming the V-neckline, positioning the concealed fastenings and ensuring that the sleeves and asymmetric front hem fall cleanly.
This production period does not include delivery time.
CUSTOMISATION OPTION : Conscious of our environmental responsibility, Insane Shell is a 100% made-to-order brand. Every piece ordered through our website is created specifically for you. Our standard size chart is designed to accommodate a wide range of body types.
If you require alterations to the shoulders, chest, sleeve length, body width, front overlap or overall jacket length, select the CUSTOM option while placing your order. Our team will contact you for the necessary measurements and details.
PLEASE NOTE : The Stillform Jacket is intentionally designed with an asymmetrical crossover front. The difference between the two front panels and the slightly extended outer edge are part of the original construction.
The concealed fastening is intended to preserve the jacket’s uninterrupted surface. Open and close each internal fastening gently rather than pulling the panels apart.
The jacket has a relaxed, boxy fit and is not intended to sit closely against the waist.
Minor differences in the way the front overlap falls may occur according to the wearer’s measurements, posture and the layers worn beneath it.
Dark colour variants may transfer colour when exposed to moisture or repeated friction. Avoid prolonged contact with pale clothing and upholstery while the garment is damp.
DELIVERY TIMELINE : Once production is complete and the jacket has been dispatched, delivery takes approximately 3–15 days, depending on your destination and courier service. We deliver across India and internationally.
Customs duties, import taxes or other destination-specific charges, where applicable, are the responsibility of the customer.
EXPEDITED DELIVERY : If you require expedited shipping with an estimated transit time of 2–3 days, please contact our customer-care team with your delivery location and required date before placing your order.
We will assist you with a special request wherever production feasibility, courier availability and the destination permit. Expedited shipping refers to transit after dispatch and does not automatically reduce the 10–15-day production timeline unless confirmed by our team before the order is placed.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS : Professional dry cleaning only to preserve the fabric, shoulder structure, crossover front and concealed fastening.
Do not wash, bleach, soak, wring or tumble dry. Do not pull the overlapping panels apart without first releasing the internal closures.
If pressing is required, turn the garment inside out and use low to medium heat with a protective cloth. Press each front panel separately to preserve its direction and avoid flattening the shoulder structure.
Store the jacket on a broad, shaped hanger with the front fastened. Avoid folding the shoulders or placing heavy garments over them for extended periods.
Keep the garment away from sharp jewellery, rough surfaces and hook-and-loop fasteners.
EXCHANGE & RETURN : We offer a free exchange within 30 days of delivery in case of sizing issues or damage. We do not accept returns because every garment is created specifically for its wearer.
When a made-to-order piece is returned or left unaccepted, it risks becoming waste—and that is something we do not wish to promote.
